About Art 1
Welcome to Art 1. This class is a beginning level class for artists that are new to art and want to learn more about art history, styles and improve their basic art skills. We will use vocabulary to discuss works of art from art history, current artists as well as our own masterpieces. We will practice and implement new techniques that will helps us express our own ideas in new and creative ways.

Basic concepts, skills and techniques you will learn in Beginning Art 1:
- Art elements: line, shape, form, space, value, color and texture
- Principles of Design: balance, contrast, emphasis, movement/rhythm, pattern, unity, harmony
- drawing-pencil, pen, colored pencil
- hand-eye coordination, proportion, shading, blending
- color theory, color schemes, color blending
- watercolor painting, effects and techniques
- observational drawing, implied texture techniques, grid method, 1 & 2 point perspective, drawing in reverse
- printmaking, mixed media
- planning, problem solving, abstract thinking/designs, stylizing
